Areva D. Martin is Managing Partner of Martin & Martin, LLP, one of the largest African American owned law firms in Los Angeles. She practices civil litigation with an emphasis on employment, education and business. A syndicated columnist, author and sought-after public speaker, Ms. Martin is regularly featured in the media as an expert on issues of employment, special needs advocacy and women’s empowerment. She has been featured in local and national newspapers and electronic media including the New York Times and the National Law Journal.

Michele Cantwell-Copher

Dr. Michele Cantwell-Copher's background includes a wide range of experiences at both the school and district levels. Working in both Clovis and Central Unified School Districts in Fresno County she has been able to gain a breadth of experience from involvement with many multi-cultural populations and socio-economic groups. Her experiences have includedi classroom teaching in grades K - 10 as well as guest teaching opportunities at the college level, successful site administration. She currently serves as Assistant Superintendent, K-12, Continuation Adult Schools, and as the Executive Director of the Foundation for Central Schools.
Dr. Copher was educated in Fresno County, having earned her bachelor’s and master's degrees through California State University, Fresno.. She received her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of La Verne, graduating magna cum laude.
Dr. Copher's leadership roles have extended beyond education, as she has held Board positions with Marjaree Mason Center and Highway City Development Foundation, was a member of Leadership Fresno Class XIX, and has been actively involved in numerous other civic endeavors.
Throughout her career, Dr. Copher has been an advocate for students while seeking the highest performance from the educators with whom she has worked. As a teacher, she was a Clovis Unified Demonstration Summer School teacher. She was a successful principal as evidenced by her school winning several distinguished awards. In her role as a district office official, she has been committed to raising the quality of education through empowering principals and partnering with them to maintain positive school culture, improve their systems, and offer students an excellent education. She has designed several Leadership Workshops, and worked to implement the California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders into Central's Principal Evaluation.
Under her leadership, Dr. Copher successfully opened the new Liddell School, which became a California State Distinguished School after being open only eighteen months. Upon being promoted to the district level, Dr. Copher oversaw the rapid succession of a number of school awards, namely three more Distinguished Schools, a Title One High Performing School, six CSUF Bonner Character Awards, two Golden Bells, and more. She led the effort to successfully pass a $40 million school bond, and successfully launched the Foundation for Central Schools. Her efforts were acknowledged by her colleagues when she was named the Central Administrator of the Year, and subsequently became a Fresno County Educator of the Year Finalist.

As a vibrant, energetic, experienced and constant-moving physical educator, Cyndi showcases a passion for getting physical and inspires motivation in all to surpass their own levels and abilities, when it comes to getting physical. With over twenty years of experience as a personal trainer, Cyndi currently works as a Project Specialist with Fresno County Office of Education. She developed and implemented KiDZ Getting Physical a program designed to develop a healthy active lifestyle for the entire family.
In the final stages of earning her Masters of Science in Kinesiology, Cyndi is deeply committed to high quality physical education that incorporates movement and sound nutrition with core curriculum. With Cyndi at the helm, thousands of school-agers and their families have benefited from her organized county and district-wide physical activity and nutrition events. “The main reason I could no longer ignore my drive and passion was because of the price of inactivity. I want to give students - families an option and the knowledge about the goings on within themselves. I want them to know the power of choice and the power that comes with developing a healthy active lifestyle. I want everybody to be able to connect mind-body-spirit. And I want everyone to get real excited about working out!”
