Welcome California Teachers

Welcome to the California Technology Assistance Project’s Computer Based Technology Proficiency Web Site. Here you will find resources to assist California’s in-service teachers to use technology appropriately as an instructional tool while integrating it in a transparent manner into the classroom environment.

In December of 1998, the Commission on Teacher Credentialing adopted a new technology standard for Multiple and Single Subject Teaching Credential candidates.  The new technology standard requires credential candidates to demonstrate their effective use of technology at a “basic” level prior to issuance of a preliminary credential and to demonstrate their effective use of technology at an “advanced” level prior to issuance of a professional clear credential.

Administrators are gaining awareness that in-service teachers need to become fluent, critical users of technology to provide a relevant education and to prepare students to be life-long learners in an information-based, interactive society.  The appropriate and efficient use of software application and related media to access and evaluate information, analyze and solve problems, and communicate ideas is essential to maximizing the instructional process.  Such use of technology supports teaching and learning regardless of an individual's learning style, socio-economic background, culture, ethnicity, or geographic location.
